Just a quick note to pass along comment I got from the Department of Foreign Affairs on the situation in Paraguay that I wrote on earlier this week.

Canada yesterday participated in the discussion about Paraguay at the OAS.

Canada notes that Paraguay supports the fact-finding mission announced by the OAS Secretary General.

We will work with the international community to further the interests of Paraguay and the people of that country.

Canada has confidence that the resilience of Paraguay’s democracy will stand it in good stead.

Canada will continue to closely watch developments in Paraguay.

I asked for clarification as to whether Canada has come out in firm support, or at least recognition, of the new government in Paraguay. They haven’t responded.
